Rwanda 1994. Traces of the Tutsi genocide - La Contemporaine, Nanterre
To mark the 30th commemoration of the Tutsi genocide in Rwanda, the RwandaMap international research network and LaContemporaine are presenting a traveling exhibition on the history and memory of the Tutsi genocide, based on the collections of La Contemporaine and enriched by public and private archives from Rwanda, France, Belgium and elsewhere. The exhibition consists of 25 panels presenting ten research themes and a set of 150 reproduced documents.
To mark the 30th commemoration of the Tutsi genocide in Rwanda, the RwandaMap international research network, and la Contemporaine - Bibliothèque, archives, musée des mondes contemporains, present an exhibition on the history and memory of the Tutsi genocide, drawing on the collections of La Contemporaine, enriched by public and private archives from Rwanda, France, Belgium and elsewhere.
The exhibition, which will be touring Rwanda in particular, is directly produced in three languages (French, Kinyarwanda, English).
Drawing on a collection of 150 documents, many of them previously unpublished (including AFP archives), this exhibition is organized around ten research themes:
1. Colonization, racialization, discrimination
2. Actors, places and rhythms of the massacres
3. The role of France in Rwanda
4. Media, commitments and public opinion
5. Churches and the genocide
6. Public memory of th genocide in Rwanda
7. judging the genocide
8. University research in post-geocide Rwanda
9. Artistic creation

Curated by historians François Robinet et Rémi Korman, this exhibition is part of a wider Contemporary program ( multy year cycle of programs, website, creation of research tools, inventories of sources, etc.), supported by French public institutions ( notably the Ministry of Foreign Affairs), cooperation and research organzations, and in Partnership with Rwandan academia.

Presented in France in spring 2024, it will then travel to Rwanda from autumn 2024 in several cities of the country (Kigali, Huye, Musanze) in cultural spaces in working-class neighborhoods.
This exhibition, oranized by La Contemporaine à Nanterre, has been supported by the Foundation for the Memory of the Shoah.
